If Google made a media player, how it would be different?
* The media player would be small and dockable. It would have four buttons: play, pause, stop, shuffle and a search box.
* Google Media Player would find lyrics for your songs using Google search engine.
* It would fill the tags with the artist, the song, the album and the genre of each song.
* Each song would have a mood (like sad, happy, romantic, sleepy).
* Google Media Player's equalizer would adjust according to song's genre.
* You would be able to share your media library, playlists or stats with your Gmail contacts or the whole world.
* Google Media Player would suggest what other songs to listen.
* Google Media Player could play contextual music: let's say you read a novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez on your computer. Feed Google Media Player a fragment from the novel and let it find the most appropriate songs from your computer or from online streams.
* Google Media Player would show the latest news from the artist that plays the current song, images from Google Images or what other people think about this song.
* Google Media Player's search functionality would be complex. If you search for "Bjork", you'll also find artists with similar music or artists influenced by her music.

I wish it was coming... or is it?
ReplyDeleteI wish it was coming as soon as possible and I wish the folks from Sony could use something smart for their 400 discs palyers.
ReplyDeleteIt could pay for itself with relevant music ads.
ReplyDeleteThere actually is/ was a standalone Google video player (as part of Google Video).
ReplyDeleteAnd would have labels, yoohoo, labels !!
ReplyDeleteyou would be able to assign MUTLIPLE genres to each song (some songs aren't just one style you know..)
ReplyDeleteDo you know last.fm? ;)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a better version of pandora.com
ReplyDeleteThere are media players that do all of the above, but aren't avail for windows yet, anyway, google are taking things too far
ReplyDeleteAND it would be free. AND it would work in conjunction with Google Earth, Search, Gmail, Gtalk etc. all by using ONE Google Account. Google Ads will show relevant Concerts, MP3 downloads and band merchandise...
ReplyDeleteOh it would b wonderful...
the name must be itube
ReplyDeleteit would be a downloadable youtube movie player..look like youtube. it would be like watching your own dvd instantly in youtube..no diff between seeing a yt movie streaming or a dvd in your pc. same screen.
it must allow gmail and gtalk on top of the movie so we can get email while watching and rspond chat at same time AST.finally its got to connect to my tv so i can input or see tv shows on my pc screen in a yt like screen and share my tv show via internet instantly worldwide .so i watch cbs in ny and see it on my pc and my sister in tel aviv can watch the same show at same time with me...
And it would have artificial intelligence, be able to read your mind and pick the most relevant song for your current mood. It would know what time you wanted to get up in the morning and automatically play music to wake you at the appropriate time. Oh, and it would make you breakfast.
ReplyDeleteNow, back in the real world, unfortunately most of what you list isn't particularly likely. Most of that has nothing to do with the actual music player. Like having "mood" for songs, some human would have to listen to every song and assign a mood. Much of that requires better meta-data than most music has currently. Both technology & data are currently lacking.
It would be nice, check back in 5 to 10 years...
I just wish there was something like Picasa for music...same files/format/library options; just for music instead of pictures. I love the tags, the previews, the export options... Windows Media Players is such a drag (and a resource hog).
ReplyDeleteThe mood could easily be achieved by writing code to analyze the timbre, movement, treble, base, etc of the music. Light show software does it today...
ReplyDeleteGOOGLE WILL INCLUDE AN AUTO-VOLUME THAT WILL SCAN THE PLAYLIST BEFORE PLAYED SO ALL SONGS WILL SOUND EQUALLY LOUD AT ITS PEAK, THUS SOLVING THE ISSUE OF LOW OUTPUT LEVELS THAT IS SO COMMON IN MP3s.
ReplyDeletei am impressed by it's features
ReplyDeletewhen it is coming??
Great !
ReplyDeleteDoes it work like picasa ?!?!?
Auto Scan any-disk
google made browser sidebar earth messenger photo organizer. it should make a madeia player which supports picasa
ReplyDeleteI think it should also should have a built in option to let you stream your media files, not limited to music files. Kind of like Orb.
ReplyDeleteYou made the browser, now read the above blog and build the player...
ReplyDeleteYou Punks just make up the media player thats all
ReplyDeleteGoogle should make a media player. Because if nobody like iTunes or WMP then you're left with just VLC and that's not very good for playing music. Google would perform well, not hog memory and simple.
ReplyDeleteAm still waiting but Songbird is slowly upgrading...
ReplyDeleteSongbird was good...but it hogged too much resources. I'm currently using Google Desktop for media.
ReplyDeleteWindows, WinAmp, VLC, hell even Opera aren't that good. I still like SongBird, and for it's lyrics, it's probably the best. Unfortunately, Google Desk Top fits my needs better.
I quite enjoy KMPlayer... it's fairly lightweight, and is quite powerful. It uses the Winamp library.
ReplyDelete* it could remove all duplicate songs in a playlist
ReplyDeleteEveryone seems to be getting a little ahead of themselves.
ReplyDelete"If Google Made A Media Player"
It is not being made.
That would be awesome if they made one! I'd definitely download it.
ReplyDeleteGoogle should make an operating system to, Windows is crap, Linux is to annoying and mac is to expensive..
ReplyDeleteif Google made a media player it should not have a lot of annoying functions it should be easy to handle and quick to open.
ReplyDeleteI mean if you want to share your music and be able to listen to almost every song released you should just switch to spotify, it's free if you get an invite! and to find one just get help with the worlds best search engine, Google.
And if it's true what i heard that it's forbidden in USA well i just get pissed at your government because it's a free way to listen to music without having to buy it + the artists get the money they deserve thanks to commercial.
I`m waiting for Google to make a media player like Picassa, except for music.
ReplyDeleteThen, they need to integrate it into a software suite that manages everything on your computer.
